Annual Events
Bowling For Sight
This event typically takes place in February and is always a great time. Members and friends show up to bowl to raise money for Sight. Bowlers typically get sponsored by friends, family and business associates on a per pin basis. Others pay a flat fee to cover the expenses of bowling and their donation. We typically bowl 2 or 3 games and it have the lanes reserved on a Sunday afternoon in February.
Music in the Park
Music in the park is our latest fundraiser and community event. In partnership with the City of Middletown, Lions Club members show up one Sunday afternoon per month from March to October (subject to change annually) to cook and serve Free Food courtesy of the City. The music is a wide variety that changes each month and makes for a fun spring, summer or fall day.
Golf Scramble
Every year in late June, we all get together with about 100 of our closest friends and play a golf scramble to raise money for the various causes we Lions support. To see a list of the causes we support click Middletown Lions Club Donates Generously .
This past June we held the 31st annual Lions Club scramble. Although the event has moved around quite a bit over the years, landing at Henry County, Perry Park at Indian Springs; we’ve found a nice home at Weissinger Hills Golf Course just down 1-64 in Shelbyville. Bryan Slone and his staff have been great to us and we’ve been able to fill up his course every year.
Annual Picnic
This event usually takes place in late June or early July and is hosted by Lion Perry Lyons and his wife Linda. They have the entire club, plus friends and family over for a pot luck with Perry’s world famous ribs (at least in Louisville and Anchorage).
State Fair Eye Screenings
This is one of our longest standing events. It also represents Lionism more than any other. This happens each August during the Kentucky State Fair.
Middletown Festival in Conjunction with the Cornhole Classic
Although our participation in the Middletown Lions Club Festival has changed several times over the years, we have always had some type of role in helping with this event. Whether running the event, cooking our famous brats or being the useful hands- we have tried to stay connected to Middletown biggest annual event. This past year we introduced our Annual Cornhole Classic. We had a tournament for adults and children.
Salvation Army Bell Ringing
Sometime in late November or early December, you’ll find our members ringing the bells outside the Middletown Kroger.
Light up Middletown
This is another annual event that really brings the entire Middletown community together. The city provides FREE FOOD and DRINKS while performances go on within the Old Methodist Church on Main St. Then Santa stops by and we flip the switch to turn the Christmas Tree lights on.
Christmas Party
Every year in December we all gather for a nice Christmas dinner and secret santa (center gift) exchange. This is great time when awards and thanks are given for the previous years efforts and blessings.
