The 32nd Annual Middletown Lions Golf Scramble is set for June 18th 2012 again at Weissinger Hills, GC 2240 Mt. Eden Rd. Shelbyville, KY 40065. The cost per person is $65 and a team of 4 is only $260. Contact Lion Chairperson Alyson Stamper at 502 386 7152, or fill out your info online. We anticipate 18 to 25 teams so get your team in early. This is a fund raiser for the club so we can continue to help those in our community.

Have fun and help us “Serve” the many needs in our community.

Senior at Kentucky School for the Blind Receives Gift from Middletown Lions Club for Holocaust Class Project
Senior Bradley Horton takes part of his classes at KSB and the other part at Central High School Magnet Career Academy in Louisville. In one of his Central classes, he and his classmates are studying about the holocaust. In March, they will travel to Washington, DC to visit the Holocaust Museum for further study.
The students are responsible for raising a portion of the funding for the trip. In a letter to the Middletown Lions Club, Horton detailed the class project and requested funding to aid him on the trip. According to the club’s president Jim Shaw, Horton wrote a wonderful letter articulating his studies and the need for funding.
On Wednesday, Dec. 7, Shaw presented $300 from the Middletown Lions Club to Central to help with the trip. Horton accepted the gift during a presentation at KSB.

Lions/Green Team plant Trees at Klondike Elementary

When I said yes to my daughter, Carrie Hellmann to help with her 4th and 5th grade club I, Lion Kay Mills, didn’t know how much fun I would have. I have been a Lion for let’s say as long as females could be a Lion and as a PDG wife, past president, region chair, etc. have known how to run a club. But this was too cool.
We are running the Lions Green Team just like a club, opening the meeting once a week. The kids have decided to take on several projects. The 4th grade is collecting used eye glasses and their box is getting full. The 5th grade is collecting used shoes for Edge Outreach that provides clean water to developing countries.
When the Lions Green Team 4thand 5th grade classes of Klondike Elementary School, Louisville, Kentucky saw the Lions International video and Lion President Tam asking Lions to plant one million trees they were so excited. So we made plans to do this as part of our green team. And the 4th grade received a donated tree from a nursery while the 5th grade was given a tree by the Middletown Lions Club.
Lions International was so helpful to us in this project through the internet (kids love the internet) with suggested topics, brochures with an entire kit of supplies. We used “Why Trees”, Planning Guide, Call to Action Guide, and resources such as the “I Planted a Tree” button, certificates and love the map on line to keep up with number of trees planted. And we watched LQ (Lions Quarterly) about things we were interested in such as eye glass collection and planting a tree. We are happy to add 2 more trees.

Middletown Lion Kay Mills Awarded Honors

Middletown, KY Lion Kay Mills was awarded the “Star of Stars Vision Conservationist Award” on 6-10-11 at the KY vs. IN High School All Stars game at “Knights Hall” on the campus of Bellarmine University. This award was given to her for her tireless work over 27 years to enhance the Game as a chief KLEF Fundraiser. Her commitment to every task large or small has resulted in thousands of dollars generated for the work of the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation. Helen Keller asked the Lions to become Knights of the Blind in 1925. What an appropriate place to receive this award. Congratulations Lion Kay

Middletown Leo JROTC Present Colors

The Middletown Leo club members of the Eastern High School JROTC presented the colors at the Kentucky Indiana All star game at Bellermine College on 6-10-11. This game is a fund raiser for the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation. Retired Colonel Lion Dave Schneider inspected the cadets and found them ready for the task.

Middletown Concerts in the Park

All events take place at Wetherby Park behind Middletown City Hall on Old Main St. They start at 5:30PM and last until 7:30 or 8:00 PM.

Free food (brats, hot dogs, burgers, chips) and drinks (water, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi) are available on a first come first serve basis for the first 400 people. All refreshments are provided by the City of Middletown and served by The Middletown Lions Club.

Middletown Lions and Saint Mary’s center

Middletown Lions took clients of Saint Mary’s to a University of Louisville Womans basketball game on 02 26 2011. Each participant got $10 to spend on food. Agreat time was had by all. Lions attending were HD Wilson (Bonita), Marty and Kay Mills, Charter member Ray Hartley, and Newest member Mike Stamper. This was Lion Mikes first College basketball game. U of L Won.
